About Me!

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I now reside in Leawood, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, where I am a school administrator in a K-12 school for handicapped students. By my age, I could possibly be classified as a "digital immigrant," but I am anything BUT that, having taken an immense interest in technology, particularly as it applies to special education. Currently, I am working on a proposal that will bring technology platforms to homebound instruction, enhancing the educational experiences of children who are too ill to attend school. As such, I am looking forward to learning about online schooling, particularly insofar as it will apply to my project.

Although I have a variety of interests. I do have a somewhat "all-consuming" hobby, that of showing and breeding American Wirehair and Bombay cats. Showing at an elite level, my cats have been top winners at Madison Square Garden for three years.

I consider myself conservative and innovative, and the three people I would most like to meet are former President George W. Bush, Howard Stern, and Britney Spears. (Now how's that for variety!)

  1. Interesting choice in people to meet - and yes, quite a variety there.

  2. How can you be both conservative and innovative? Aren't those opposites?

I have seen dog shows, but not cat shows. Is the format similar?

  3. APH...have you ever read Atlas Shrugged? I am rather like Dagny Taggart.

  4. Nope, I haven't read it yet. It is one of those books that I own, but have never started because I only read one book at a time and it's a whopper.

You will have to explain further someday.

By the way, your homebound instruction proposal sounds interesting. What accommodations are made for home schooled homebound children in your area?

  5. Currently, homebound children receive f2f instruction for about 3 hours a week from a teacher who comes to their home. While I think this is valuable, and in no way intend to replace these folks, I think the DL platform would be a nice addition. We currently have Tandberg in our school. Are you familiar with that platform?

  7. Hi Maureen,
I just joined this class today. You and I were in a class last summer and we are also in Health in Higher Ed currently.

I love the 3 people you'd like to meet. I would love to hear the conversation if those three were stuck in an elevator together...too funny. You've got me thinking about whom I'd like to meet. When I compile me list I'll let you know.

I think your proposal for bringing the classroom to children that are to sick to attend school sounds wonderful.
