Weekly reflection, Week 2

How "scholarly" are these reflections supposed to be? When I think of blogging, I think of journaling, which, in literature, as thought of as less "formal" than other forms of writing. With this in mind, I shall write my "thoughts" about week 2.

First, I must admit that I was quite overwhelmed during the first week, almost to the point of dropping the class. There were so many new platforms to learn in what I considered to be a short amount of time. Compounding this was the fact that I am also the master scheduler for my school, and last week was the first week of the new semester. Therefore, it was like a nonstop fire drill.

I was happy to concentrate this week on the varieties of state virtual schools. Most helpful were the links on the wiki pages. Since my big project (for school and work) involves designing and implementing a distance learning platform for homebound students, it was especially interesting to see the various levels of student, parent, and staff involvement that were present in the schools.

Since my district is comprised of public and charter schools, I will be intrigued to examine the charter and private schools next week.

Finally, this is "Bailey," my household pet.

This is "Mel," aka CH,PR Okeydokey Braveheart. He was named after Mel Gibson, and will be 14 years old on his birthday, Feb. 23!

This is GP Stedam's Born in the U.S.A. He is the cat I plan on showing this coming season. He is "Cupcake's" son.

This is GC,BW,NW Shadowland's All That Glitters. He is a Bombay male, and was the highest scoring cat at the Madison Square Garden Cat Show in 2004.

This is "Cupcake," aka GC,GP,NW Stedam's American Beauty Rose, DM, a brown tabby American Shorthair Spay. "GC" means "Grand Champion," "GP" means "Grand Premier," "NW" is "National Winner," and "DM" stands for "Distinguished Merit." As you can see, she is a very "titled" lady!

Weekly reflection

This has been my first experience with a blog. Here are my comments for the first week, both positive and negative:

  • Positive - As a student majoring in Computing and Education, it is vitally important to become familiar with as many forms of technology as possible. I would prefer to make my mistakes in a class than on the job! So, while I am a little worried about all the new tools we will be using this semester, I am grateful to have the experience here. I am also eager to learn more about blogging as it may apply to my digital passion in life, that of using technology to improve homebound instruction.
  • Negative - It's hard for me to not have a conversation in "real time." I may see something insteresting that I want to follow up with, and then have no choice but to keep checking back over and again. My schedule prohibits me from checking the blog as often as I would like, and this results in my being afraid that I will miss something important.
